Service Projects
Rake
and Run -- Pile all of your youth group into a couple of cars
and trucks and drive from door to door. When you see a yard
that needs raking, everybody jumps out, rakes the yard, bags
the leaves, then takes off. Great for the fall.
Valentines
to Shut-Ins -- On Valentine's Day or the Sunday closest to
Valentine's, go to your local nursing homes and give
valentine cards to your church's members there. It is also a
good idea to go to the houses of those shut-ins who are not
in nursing homes.
Adopt a
Christmas Family -- With help from your local Department of
Family and Children Services office, locate a needy family in
your community that has several children (3 or more). Host a
dinner for your congregation one Sunday night about 3 weeks
before Christmas and tell them about the family. Take
donations. On the following Saturday, with the money you
collected, go to the mall as a youth group and purchase
clothes and toys for the children. The Department of Family
and Children Services should be able to supply you with
clothng sizes and wanted toys. Give the youth a week to get
the presents wrapped and meet back at the church Sunday week.
Deliver the presents to the children at their homes.
